Mission Trip – Health and Dignity for Landmine Victims
In the heart of the Sahara Desert lies the second longest wall in the world, after the Great Wall of China. This military barrier, stretching 2,770 kilometers, cuts through Western Sahara and is heavily mined with over 9 million anti-personnel landmines—making it one of the most dangerous zones on the planet, not only for humans but also for animals.
This wall perpetuates the occupation of Western Sahara—the last colony in Africa and one of the 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories recognized by the United Nations. The International Court of Justice has ruled that Morocco has no sovereignty over Western Sahara; however, in practice, the occupation continues.
